Colt's next game was in the KLM cup against a side that have been doing very well in the third division. After good results against the Maquis Of Lorne this looked to be a good tie, and for the neutral it was. Colts had to make changes due to injuries and abscence, Barlett was removed as captain after previously been warned about his punctuality. Whitten picked up the captaincy, a club insider said that Whitten is the peoples captain and its a proud day for the club.
The first goal of the game went to Stevenage Leisure after the Colts defensive lined failed to clear a long ball, Their striker was onto it quickly and expertly finished it past Lee into the bottom corner from a tight angle.
Colts thought they were back in the game when they thought a great cross from Peduto had crossed the goal line, The ref couldnt see but Liversidge and Winch were adamaent it had. Colts had began to get a grip of the game, this was mainly due to Jones great holdup play and the midfield combination of King and Liversidge, King was tormenting the Stevenage Lesiure midfield but as usual Colts wern't making many chances. One of the highlights of the first half was Pedutos dangerous shot from the half way line which the keeper made a hash of
The second half started brilliantly for Colts after a nice passing move Jones, battled his way through the defensive and managed to finish low past the keeper. Colts were back in the game but not for very long at all, virtually a repeat of the first goal was to come. Another long ball and another decent finish. Chris Parker has earlier spurned a big chance in the game but he made no mistake latching onto a throw and smashing the ball into the bottom corner. Chris's first goal of the season and he and everyone knows it should of come alot earlier on in the season.
Colts began to believe and like the last few week, recovered from a losing postion. The game was finally sealed 13mins from the end after a great move saw Winch flick the ball to Liversidge who casually back healed the ball to King, King raced onto it and unleashed a great strike which clipped off the inside of post into the net. There was one notable abscentee though as club chairmen and self confessed superfan wasnt there, some believe that his late night dealing the day before with Austen Arrowheads had something todo with it. Im sure we may find out more at a later date.
