Report

Today Colts went up against new team Shephall Artois who were still looking for their first win of the season due to Herts Fencing withdrawing from the league. Colts were still struggling for players and were helped by the late signing of winger Chris Thompson. Hufford again started in goal as Lee was still missing, Bartlett was back from injury but Rhodes Winsor kept his centre back position so Bartlett was pushed to left back with Pallister adopting his favoured position at right back. Thompson came in on the right wing and Jones partnered Lane upfront.

Colts started the game well and the first real chance of the game came when Liversidge picked out Lane with a great ball over the top, Lane pulled the ball down brilliantly before catching a sweet volley which luckily enough for Shephall Artois smashed against the crossbar. Adam Wisker had the ball in the net when a great slid through ball from Thompson was prodded past the keeper unfortunately Adam was adjudged to have been offside.

Lane was causing Shephall more issues by dropping deep and picking up the ball and running directly at the defence, he was just about getting his range when he was tackled which led to him injuring a hamstring, only sub N.Parker who was allready strugging with an injury from last week replaced Lane. With Jones doing the running of two players and chasing every ball over the top Colts were looking to take the lead, Jones was close to getting in a few times but was prevented by good goalkeeping and defending, the same could be said at the other end where Hufford and his defence were having a good game with the standard ball being cleared off the line by Pallister and some crucial saves from Hufford.

The second half started and the game started to become stretched, Jones was denied again after he was met by the onrushing keeper after another ball over the top. Bartlett probably should of opened the scoring when he controlled well but blazed over from 5yds following a corner.Liversidge then came closest to opening the dead lock when a poor kick from the keeper landed at Liversidges feet , from about 40yds Dan looked up and caught the ball sweetly it looked like Dan had probably scored another contender for goal of the season but the ball got caught up in the wind and bounced agnoisingly off the post leaving the Shephall Artois keeper very relieved.

Shephall Artois had escaped and again went looking for a goal, more solid defending from the ever reliable Whitten and his defence were forcing Shephall to shoot from around the edge of the area and these were not testing Hufford. Colts finally broke the deadlock when a great corner from Mullen was met by sub N.Parker who had lost his marker and headed low into the goal from about 6yds out. Colts were looking good defensively until possibly one of the worst goals conceeded in a sunday league game happened, a shot from the edge of the area squrimed out of Huffords body, luckily for Colts it went to Rhodes Winsor who moved it onto Liversidge who tjen dallied on the ball and was eventually dispossesd, the ball then landed in the area where Rhodes Winsor went to clear, as he cleared he smashed the ball into the oppositions members face where the ball bounced over the line from 2yds out. Liversidge and the Colts defence were fuming as he felt he was clearly fouled, the ref ignored the appeals and the goal was given.

Parker was booked contraversially after getting his legs tangled up with the Shephall Artois midfielder, Its believed the ref booked both just to keep some control of the game which was heating up as both teams went looking for the win. Mullen again tested the keeper from a freekick on the edge of the area but the keeper palmed it away for a corner. With a few minutes to go Hufford made a match winning fingertip save to keep Colts in the game when the Shephall Artois player found himself one on one with Hufford, however Huffords palm could only land at the onrushing strikers feet who some how managed to miss from a few yards out. With five minutes to go Colts threw everything at Shephall Artois with a succession of corners and long throw from Liversidge, however the defence stood strong and the game ended one a piece.
