Report

For the second week in a row Colts made light work of their opponents, with a 6-1 win over Old Town Wetherspoons. The Game started fairly even, with Colts perhaps showing signs of the better football. Colts carved out the first real attempt at goal, with Hufford breaking into the box, a curling shot just hitting the inside of the far post before coming back out.

The game became a one sided affair soon after, with a Hufford corner finding Lane at the back post, who controled well, shifted and drilled into the far corner. A second was soon to follow, this time Lanes corner finding Dan Liversidge unmarked, who powered a header into the OTW net. Colts were now in total control, and made it 3-0 before the break, a raking crossfield pass from Liversidge alowing Lane to break in and smash home for his second of the day. This goal didnt go down well and saw one OTW defender booked for discent after he was certain Craig Winch should of had his flag up Craig of course was doing them a favour and saving them a fine.

Old Town Weatherspoons came out after half time looking to salvage something from the game but were soon picking the ball out of their net, when 45 seconds after the restart, a defender failed to deal with a Lane cushioned header, allowing Neil Parker to half-volley past the keeper. This went some way to making up for Parkers awful miss earlier on in the first half of the game. Colts added a 5th 10 minutes later with a superb footballing move, King broke from midfield and found Hufford, who layed the ball through to Lane who in turn crossed to the on coming King who had an open goal to head into.

King went close again after a great indivudal run, unfortunately after beating three players and lifting the ball towards goal a defender cleared. King and Lane combined again brilliantly when King created the space with a clever Cryff turn and curling a shot onto the post. Lane grabbed the 6th of the game, and his hat-trick with a great finish, a King shot came off the line, span high into the air and Lane volleyed into the far corner. That is 7 in 2 for Peter who has obviously found his shooting boots coming into the business end of the season. There were more chances to be had and Hufford unselfishly setup Winch when Hufford ignored the open goal infront of him, the ball fell to Winch who couldnt convert his first goal of the season

Old Town Weatherspoons managed to grab a very late consolation goal when Colts were unlucky to be unable to clear, resulting in a good finish from Old Towns Weatherspoons player, this was probably a tad harsh on the defence and Lee who had kept solid. Lee especially after he made a great block from close range. A good performance from Colts this week, who have Times Club in their next fixture where a win will seal second place and promotion for a team of players in their first season together.
