Report

The first game of the season for Stevenage Colts Old Boys was about to begin, after last year the teams reputation was in tatters. With some work from a few at Colts the team were back and starting in Divison 2. This year Kieran Hufford had volunteered to run the team which obviously meant alot of work and the odd bit off hassle.

Kieran had built which looked to be a good strong squad and many of the team have played together before. Apart from the Parker brothers, Liversidge, Hufford and Oli Wisker who played the previous season, Hufford added to his squad Keeper Adrian Lee, Right Back Mark Pallister(Willy), Dave Whitten and Josh Bartlett in defence. Chris Thompson, Paul King and speedy winger Craig Winch in midfield, also added to his team were Utility man Gareth Rees and Strikers Sam Jones and Peter Lane.

The first game of the season was against Hartham Press, Colts lined up 442 and played some nice football on a nice rare summers day. Colts first goal of the season was scored by player manager Hufford, After a cross from his strike partner Lane, Hufford rode a challenge and finsihed well past the keeper. Hartham went onto equalise after a long ball into the area was flicked on, Oli Wisker then rattled the bar from 35yds, but Colts were getting closer. Liversidge beat his man and went down with a thudd, Lane placed the ball and smashed it past the keeper to make it 2-1. Colts were playing some great football but were not keeping it tight at the back and this let Hartham press in again to make it 2-2, Adam Wisker was caught out and couldnt clear.

Colts took the lead again after Manager for the day Sam Jones sent on new boy Craig Winch, Winch's first contribution of the game was to whip in a great cross that picked out Hufford who converted from close range with a firm header. Another lapse in the defence allowed Hartham to snatch what looked like a late point, however this wasnt to be the case as King cooly slotted home the winner after a good run from Lane who found King in the middle.
