Report

Colts started their first game of the new year against Broadhall after a row of postponements due to bad weather. Colts were still missing Paul King who is battling with a long term injury and Robbie Freeman who had picked up a back injury, while Sam Jones and Adam Wisker were also absent.

Colts got off to the best of starts when Hufford picked out the pacey Bennett on the right wing who burst past two men before getting to the byline and picking out the grateful Lane who was waiting to smash the hosts into an early lead.

Hufford finds himself 30yds out from goal with a defender to beat but decides to involve Bennett again, Bennett looks up and crosses into the area but it takes a deflection however Hufford reacts well and nods past the keeper from close range.

Adrian Lee was called into a smart save when he saved well down low with his feet. Unfortunately for him his hard work was undone when he didnt deal with a cross and the ball slipped out to the Broadhall player who found the net from three yards. Lee was back on his game two mins later though when he denied Broadhall a clear goal after diving to his left and preventing a good header finding the net from a corner.

What came next was probably Colts best goal of the season, Colts had started to look alot more comfortable in possesion this game and it showed after a delightful move involving the Knebworth trio Mcguinness, Hufford and Bennett. The move was started by Bennnett when his smart ball found Hufford down the line, Hufford then picked out Mcguinness inside who delightfully backheeled the ball into the onrushing Bennett's path who powered through and dinked the ball past the keeper with the outside of his foot.

Colts went into half time with a well deserved lead after a good performance. They soon went looking to add a fourth and soon got it when Mullen found Liversidge from a free kick who crashed a header off the crossbar but managed to nip in before everyone else and nod in from close range. Hufford nearly added a spectacular effort but couldnt turn the ball in after a good cross from Bennett.

Broadhall added a goal with about 25 minutes to go when the Colts defense were concentrating on the linesman flag but let a runner from deep get in and finish past Lee. The game wasnt really a nasty game obviously there were a few commited tackles like you would expect in a game of football but suddenly the ref had his cards out, Bartlett and the Broadhall player were in involved in what seemed a pointless altercation, Broadhall were reduced to ten men and Bartlett was booked for his reaction to be being kicked.

Broadhall reacted well to this and were scoring again after their player picked out the top corner from long range leaving Lee helpless to stop it. Broadhall were up for this now and could of taken a point if it there striker had connected better at the back post. There was still one more chance of for Broadhall but Lee again dealt with the shot from long range and pushed the ball away from goal before gathering it before a player.

Some great football, hardwork and clinical finishing had given Colts the three points where the two midfielders had given Colts the platform to pick up the three points, other mentions goto Josh and Dave who dealt with the threat of their strikers well.

MOM : Jordan Mullen & Dave Mcguinness

(Nothing between them this week they were both as good as each other covering every blade of grass and literally controlling the midfield)
